The 2016 Allan Border Medal has been won by David Warner, devastating opening batsmen, funny man and father of two.

Stating he thought the accolade would go to teammate and Australian captain Steve Smith (along with the rest of Australia!), Warner credited his changed attitude over the past few years - on and off the field - to his wife Candice.

Candice didn’t appear at the awards ceremony, having just given birth two weeks ago to daughter Indi Rae.

Warner said he loved "waking up every day knowing I'm playing for Australia".

Cricket’s night of nights handed out honours to the best players in both the women’s and men’s competition.
