Some of the best crowd catch moments

By Taryn Elder

It's a pretty great moment for any cricket fan when their team hits a six into the crowd. What's even more remarkable is when a fan in the crowd actually catches it! Over the past few summers we've seen many crowd catch moments that have sent commentators and social media into meltdown. To pay homage to these unsung heroes, we've rounded up some of them for your viewing pleasure.

Unsuspecting crowd catch whilst seated - MCG.
All eyes were certainly on a spectator at the Melbourne Cricket Ground over the weekend, when she took an unsuspecting crowd catch during the VB One Day International Series, Australia v India. From the looks of the video she was pretty surprised with herself, the commentators even labelled it as the 'catch of the year'.

Rolling Hill Catch - North Sydney Oval.
Just because you're seated in the crowd, doesn't always mean that you won't be part of the game. A six hit into the crowd by South Australian Matador Cup player Travis Head, nearly ended disastrously for one spectator at North Sydney Oval, as he dived head first into a chair on the hill, much to the amusement of his Wide World of Sport colleagues in the commentary box!

Fan loses his beer, takes epic crowd catch - SCG.
It was a costly moment for cricket fan who took a one handed catch at the SCG after cricketer David Warner belted a six into the crowd. The man became an instant crowd favourite but unfortunately he did happen to lose his beer in the process. We hope his mates were nice enough to shout him at the pub that night.

Man skips out on his date, becomes hero of the match - New Zealand.
Cricket is an amazing sport, particularly in New Zealand. Find out what got commentator Ian Smith so worked up at a domestic match in Hamilton.

Sydney Thunder BBL player Pat Cummins drops crowd catch - SCG.
Poor Pat Cummins, the injured player wasn't even playing against the Adelaide Strikers, but still managed to drop a catch.

Catch the ball, save your beer. All in a day's work - SCG.
A massive six from Indian batsman Rohit Sharma was skilfully caught by a man in the crowd with one hand, whilst still holding a beer in the other. That's skill right there.

Upside down catch - Etihad Stadium.
Ten points for effort from this cricket fan. As a six goes rogue into the crowd, this man shows us his own style to score the catch of the day.

How not to take a crowd catch - WACA.
You can't fault the passion of this Big Bash League Perth Scorchers fan. Watch as he becomes pretty upset after not sealing the deal with a crowd catch moment, although it looks like his neighbour at the game is pretty happy with the result.
