Erin Holland is one of those familiar faces that seems to be everywhere at the moment. With over one million instagram followers (I was pretty stoked with my couple of hundred), the former International Miss World winner and model is is in hot demand when it comes to fronting the face of various brand campaigns and is also a regular on morning TV show Sunrise, as one of Kochie's Angels.
What people might not know about Erin however, is that she is a sports nut who loves her cricket. She's also currently dating Brisbane Heat player Ben Cutting and is a regular at BBL games. I caught up with Erin on a sunny afternoon to chat all things cricket, Ben's weird cleaning habits and the key to maintaining a long distance relationship with Ben.
So I hear you're a bit of a cricket fan Erin, where did the love for cricket begin?
Yeah I come from a sporty family and I actually grew up watching cricket and playing it in the backyard. My brothers were really into it and my parents were really involved in local cricket. So I guess summer for us was all about cricket on the TV, it’s a sport I know and love.
Do you have a favourite cricket memory?
I remember when I was 14 years old, Australia played Bangladesh up in Cairns which is my hometown. I got to watch Australia play for five days at home and I remember Andy Bichel was the 12th man and he was a Queenslander, so every time he went on the field everyone went nuts, even though he was just handing out the waters ha ha!
So you’re dating Brisbane Heat BBL player Ben Cutting, has he taught you more about the rules around cricket and some cricket terminology.
I really already knew a lot about it, Ben actually jokes that I probably like cricket more than he does. They’ll come home (Ben lives with fellow Heat teammate Usman Khawaja) and there I’ll be watching it. If I’m away I’ll try and watch it online on the live stream or TV. Whenever I can, I’ll try and head to the games, especially the BBL. I think I’m known as a 'cricket nuffie', ha ha.
So obviously Ben plays for the Big Bash League (BBL), do you prefer the BBL compared to Test cricket or One Day International games?
I do love all forms of the game. Big Bash is great, it’s exciting, been a great rejuvenation for the cricket brand. I can take my girlfriends, they love coming to the shorter form of the game which is BBL. But I do still love Test-cricket and the one dayers. I love all of them for different reasons.
How long have you and Ben been together?
We celebrated 11 months the other day, so almost a year.
Ben…. congrats buddy.. you must be doing something right.
So he’s living in Brisbane and you’re in Sydney? It must be tough doing long distance?
The key is communication. If you’re not talking everyday it’s tough. We both don’t have regular schedules so we find weird times to meet for a couple of days. The good thing is we don’t get bored of each other.. so that’s a plus. Always exciting to see each other. Limited time = quality time.
Hmmmm, good advice.
So now that your 11 months in, have you discovered any weird quirks about Ben?
He is the most obsessive, compulsive person I know. I leave things everywhere and Ben has to have everything tidy. He’s not passive aggressive about it, he just likes to be clean. If you go into his cricket garage it’s so clean, everything is lined up, all the shoes in the boxes. Things need to sit at certain angles. Sometimes I test him and move his toy car model to see if notices in the lounge room.
What’s a typical weekend involve together?
We both love the beach. If we’re in Brisbane we’ll head to Burleigh Heads. We’re also big eaters so we’re always going to brunch or a movie. We love to just veg out as we’re both so busy, so it’s great to be able to relax on a weekend.
Thanks for catching up with The Delivery Erin!
No problems, it's been awesome to chat!
